The Bruce Oak

Strathleven Artizans working on the felled oak tree, if you place your cursor over the photo you will see the ghostly face of Robert the Bruce ingrained in the far left of the cut oak section.
The tree at time of cutting was 18ft in height and had a circumference of 29ft.
Artizan Gus Lennox working on top of the main trunk is dwarfed by the sheer size of the bulk.




Artizans' committee members James, Phil and Drew seen here taking advantage of the pleasant Scottish weather, which is ideal for outdoor activities.
Their task here today is cutting the oak tree into smaller sections that can be manoeuvred more easily.
The wood of the oak tree is hard and very durable, hence this type of wood was, and indeed still is, extensively used in the building of sailing ships.

The bruce Oak with 21 persons on and around itThis is a fun photo but also at the same time it depicts the true dimensions of this huge oak tree. Displayed in this picture you can count 21 people on and around the dead trunk. These people are made up from Renton village youth and some members of the Strathleven Artizans.

The photograph on the right shows the rebirth of the Bruce tree.

Basically this picture not only portrays the regrowth of the Bruce oak tree, you could perhaps perceive the idea of the rebirth of King Robert the Bruce himself.
